There is one method, which can provide You with a natural, life-lasting hairgrowth on balding areas, this is: Single Hair Replacement. In short, hair follicles are harvested from the surplus in the rear of the head, and implanted in a completely natural way in the required areas.

Actually, Single should not be taken too literally. The implants consist of natural groups of hair follicles, which could mean 1, 2, 3 or even moore hair follicles. Those units are also called follicular units (FU). The double and triples dominate.

The most common cause of hair loss, in both men and women, is inherideted sensitivity to the male sex hormone, testosterone, by the hair follicles on the top of the head known as the vertex. Excluded are the hair follicles on the temples and the lower part of the neck region. There are approximately 30.000 of these  "permanent" hairs, while the others "sensitive" to the genetic process number around 70.000.

When we transfer a permanent hair follicle up to the top of the scalp, it will resist the attacks from  testosterone. Unfortunately, nothing has changed for the original hair in that same area, so You still continue to loose hair, no operation can stop that. But if we use Your limited resources in an intelligent way, we can always achieve and improvement, and a more happy outcome than Mother Nature had intended for You.

The immune system does not react towards Your own tissue, and the body is programmed to take care of its own cells. If the implants are handled in the correct way, close to 100 % of them will grow, and produce hair for the rest of Your life.

Not a Miracle, but hard Work and simple Mathematics
Approximately, the hair density is around 200 hairs per square centimetre, before any hair loss has occured. There is a conciderable variation, of course, depending on hair type, age and  which  region of the scalp, that is measured on.

As mentioned above, the permanent hair is in minority. And we can not move all of it. Around 10.000 can be used for repair purposes. If a significant part of the hormone dependent hair follicles (70.000 in number) has been lost, it is obvious that a moment of prioritising must be a part of the planning..

In one session, a maximum of 4-5000 hair follicles can be relocated, provided there are no complicating factors, such us scars after old methods of operations etc. This amount of hair can cover about 80 cm² of bald scalp, but in practice, larger areas are engaged.

For example, it is common to cover an area around 50 cm² in the front with maximum density, and then another 50 - 100 cm² with more space inbetween the grafts. But You can never expect to cover a vast area of perhaps 300 cm², even if You go through repetead procedures. A frame of hair around the face is then the realistic goal.

When implanting, each and every individual graft is placed in a small incision (1 mm). To get an idea of how many incisions that can be made on a square cm of skin, You can do the following experiment: Draw a square, each side beeing 1 cm. Now make 1 mm "cuts" with a pencil, evenly spread out, and count them. When You have produced around 25, the square will look pretty occupied. In each graft, there is a natural group of hair follicles, so to obtain the density of hairs, You must multiply by 2-3, thus reaching 50-75/cm².

If the procedure is repeated, the density can be improved to well over 100, and that is enough to give a good impression from most angles. An interval of around one year should be given between operations. It is not until You have lost half of the original volume of hair in a specific area, that the area begins to look thin, so there is no point in over-doing the repair-job.

All surgery can involve unexpected and unwanted events, one should be aware of that before taking the decision of going through the process. But after more than 5500 operations, we are experienced, and the risks of serious events, such as deeper infections or bleedings, are very rare.
