Women who lose hair

The fact that as a woman losing hair or suffering from thinning hair is often very difficult to accept. There is help available, but the conditions are different from men’s.

Not all women are suitable for hair transplantation. Two types dominate: “Diffuse hair loss” (telogen effluvium) and “feminine variant of hereditary hair loss.”

If it always seems to get stuck more hair than usual in your brush or comb or drains, and on top of the head and sides and neck appear to be unaffected in roughly equal measure, you are probably on diffuse hair loss. If there is a relatively sudden change should always consult their regular physician. There may be a cause, that can be done about it. Even moderate iron deficiency, which have not yet had an effect on blood values, may lead to an increased proportion of follicles in the scalp is the resting phase. Can you get enough iron to replenish the depot, get their hair eventually. Problems metabolism is not entirely uncommon, and revealed with a simple blood sample (TSH). The lack of thyroid hormones becomes skin, hair and nails have deteriorated. Severe acute and chronic illness, severe stress of another kind, and not least, eating disorders can affect your hair. The little hair follicle is an avid promoters, which are dependent on nutrients of all kinds in order to manage to do their work. Smoking is definitely not good for your hair either. Chemical assault, tensile damage of hair follicles as a result of the hard braiding or inappropriate extensions are other possible causes. What to do?

It goes without saying that a hair transplantation is rarely a good solution for diffuse hair loss. You simply have no surplus to take off, and then a relocation right meaningless. Primarily, of course you eliminate any harmful influencer, review their hårvanor and maybe think about their lifestyle. If there is no direct underlying disease, one might try Hair care treatment. Just in case, in which women will notice how your hair monthly thinned out, such treatment is usually effective in slowing down and sometimes even reverse the process. Stationary lasers and LaserCap are very powerful. Part of the effect is most likely an improved blood supply to hair follicles, which can also be achieved with such massages. The so-called Huntingford method is based on this. The drug minoxidil (Rogaine) may in some cases work, but is often not sufficiently user-friendly for large areas to treat. Cosmetically there are some that do (DermMatch, Toppik). Generally, one must say that the condition is difficult to treat, if you can not find any underlying cause to treat.

Female variant of hereditary hair loss
This is the second main group of large hair problems in women. Along with “diffuse alopecia” we have here about 80% of all cases. As with men, hit his head, while the temples and the bottom half of the head may be thick or very thick hair. There is usually a family history. Often women maintain a small bank of preserved hair along the hairline, and behind it a more or less widespread tunnhårighet all the way back to the vortex of the crown. These are generally on large surfaces, but not completely bald.

Hair transplants can be a good option, but women are almost always more complicated to treat, precisely because it often has a relatively large amount of hair, poor quality of the surfaces to be dealt with. There is an increased risk of this hair is in resting phase (shock fall-out), sometimes for good. Then of course the result is perceived as much worse, even if all the transplanted hair would have grown up. The large areas, it is often involved, may also be a problem. Would be spread out the transplanted hair too much, there will be no wide power somewhere. Usually it is better to concentrate effort along a little narrower “street” from the crown and all the way forward, perhaps combined with a strengthening of the hair on the sides of the front hårpartiet (“anchor” form). Not infrequently, the days of repeated efforts to reach, for the patient, acceptable destination, and the shock fall-out is always a unpredictable factor. In early stages, as well as minoxidil Hair care treatment to be effective in slowing or, at best, completely stop the process.

Other causes
Spot wise hair loss, or at worst a total loss of all hair on the head, because the body’s own immune cells attack its own hair follicles. We can not do much about this, although sometimes considered worthwhile to try to make a new hair transplantation, on a small bald spot, which remained stable for many years. Not infrequently, a spontaneous regrowth occur within 18 months, but the nature of the condition is unfortunately prone to relapse, often in completely new areas. Sometimes there is a link to other so-called autoimmune conditions, such as inflammation of the thyroid gland. One should seek their doctor if they suffer from Alopecia Areata. Are there signs of hormone imbalance, you should seek their gynecologist, or perhaps an endocrinologist for investigation. Bleeding disorders and increased facial hair, in the “wrong” places, can sometimes be a sign of such a disorder. Blood sampling is then included in the investigation.
